ROANOKE, Va., (October 31, 2008)
As a key part of the 2008 Roanoke Arts Festival, a portion of the acclaimed James W. Hyams Collection will be on view in the home of Mr. Hyams, with tours provided by the collector himself.
Portions of this highly-regarded collection have been on loan to more than eight museums, including most recently the exhibition Print as Muse: Reflections on Vanitas from the James W. Hyams Collection at the Eleanor D. Wilson Museum at Hollins University.
Hollins Museum Director Amy G. Moorefield describes Mr. Hyams as “a man with a myriad of diverse talents, (who) has graciously given a tremendous gift to the community . . . the invitation to view renowned works of art in the intimate environment of a collector’s home.”
Artists represented in the Hyams Collection include:
Chuck Close, Salvador Dali, Richard Diebenkorn, Jim Dine, Nancy Graves, Richard Hamilton, Damien Hirst, Robert Indiana, Jasper Johns, Alex Katz, Alfred Leslie, Roy Lichtenstein, Louise Nevelson, Claes Oldenburg, Philip Pearlstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Larry Rivers, James Rosenquist, Frank Stella, Andy Warhol, and Tom Wesselmann.
The tours will take place at 1 and 3 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, November 8 and 9.
This is a free event but reservations are required.
Please call Rick Salzberg at (540) 853-5837 for reservations and further information.
A voluntary contribution of $10 to the Roanoke Arts Festival would be greatly appreciated.
